“Skimming” isn’t new, but it’s definitely getting more sophisticated! Use these tips to help protect yourself at the ATM:
- Use a different ATM if:
- the keypad or card reader are loose
- the plastic around the keypad or card reader don’t match the rest of the ATM
- Don’t assume that ATM’s in well monitored areas are safe
- Look for tiny cameras watching the keypad and considering covering the keypad with your free hand while you type
- If your card jams in the reader be wary – jamming indicates there might be a skimmer
